This is a review off the Syma X8HG New Altitude Hold Mode Headless RC Quadcopter with 8mp Camera in Red. (Measures 500 x 500 x 190mm)Note - The video is very clear when you play on a pc, however, the format for adding a video to this review makes it look a little pixelated. Excellent video and photos from this camera.Summary – This is now my second Drone and is a more advanced version my last model. I love this drone as it is so simple to use and is a ton of fun. The best feature putting aside the fact this is an easy to fly drone is the camera setup. This has the ability to take full HD video (selectable between 720P and 1080P) and records using a micro sd card. You can trigger when to take photos and when to record using the remote which is great for ensuring you do not record tons of footage or takes lots of photos you may not want to. In terms of quality, there are certainly no complaints here. I will admit I am getting better at drone flying but remain far from being a professional. I have taken several high dives and this simply did not phase the drone not did it break, chip or show signs of my errors. That alone gets two thumbs up from me. So far, I can find nothing not to like and would certainly recommend for anyone wanting a mix between entry level drone and professional. As with all my reviews, should this develop any issues, I will update this review.Features-You get EVERYTHING you need to unpack and get flying which is awesome. With this kit, you are getting the SYMA X8HG Quadcopter, a HD camera, the transmitter, 8 rotating blades, 4 protector frames, 4 landing gear, 1 battery, 1 battery charger, 1 screw driver, 1 usb charger cable, 1 card reader, hardware-screws and a bonus steel commander helicopter. (Who does not love a free toy to tinker with?)-This drone has a 6-Axis Gyro.-The remote control gives you total control. High low speed selector, overturn button, antenna, left – right control, ascend – descend control, power, indicator light, left – right fine tune and photo / video selector.-Setup could not be easier. Simply pull out the protectors at the end of each arm - attach the protector guards using two screws each, attach the feet using two screws each, install the four blades-protector caps, insert four AA batteries into the remote, fully charge and connect the included battery, clip on the camera and attach the cable from the camera to the drone.**Make sure your blades match the photo and are the correct way.**-Comes with a Li-Poly 2000mAh battery. You can expect up to 7-9 minutes fly time and charging will range upwards of 180-200minutes. (The green light on the charger will go out when the battery is fully charged.)-Has a 6 – axis gyro direction stabilizer built in.-Uses 2.4ghz which is known for being anti-interference in nature. (In other terms, it allows multiple quadcopters to fly without crossing signals.)-Can be flow indoors and outdoors, however, due to size and ability to fly very high, I recommend outdoors.-Build in leds (above and below) act as indicators for quadcopter status. (Very effective for when it is dusk and not full daylight.)-Flying distance is greater than my last drone and is up to 150 meters.-Camera included is a nice camera and is higher quality photos-video than my last drone. This camera is 8MP for photos and 1MP for Video. The camera comes with a 4GB micro SD card – TF card as well as a USB to micro SD card reader for your PC. There is a selector for you to choose between 720P and 1080P. Since this comes with a USB to micro sd card reader, you simply pull the card out and can transfer your photos-videos to your device.-Has two methods to power down the drone. One is to push the left joystick down and keep it down for 2-3 seconds. Method two is to move both joysticks inwards and down for one second.-Has low voltage indicator. When the drone’s four bottom indicator lights flash, the power is getting low and the device will then also limit height automatically to avoid a damaging drop.-Has extra accessories you can purchase such as replacement parts and things like a battery which may be nice to have more than one of.-This is a headless mode drone. (What this means is that you do not have to worry about which way the drone is facing to fly this.) When you setup, you place the drone in a certain way and once you begin flying, you no longer need to worry about orientation of the drone. (To simplify further, it lets the drone move as to how you move the levers on the drone.) Headless drones are the best way to get your feet wet like me and learn.Note-The Federal Aviation Administration now requires registration of many drones both for hobby and commercial.  This is a great drone with a lot of features. We are huge fans of our workhorse drone, the Syma X8W, and this is a big improvement. The camera is very good for the price and the altitude hold really works and makes it a better drone. It is way easier to fly with altitude hold. The features only fails in really high winds, which are hard to fly in anyway. You can even upgrade the camera with an after market camera if you want to. There is a camera mount available that will hold a GoPro or other action cameras like the DB Power EX5000.

I have had the X8HG for four days now, starting with no drone experience at all, and now have about an hour and a half of flight time with it. I purchased this product because I have a need for a camera drone and the X8HG looked like something I could learn with, and get still photos good enough for my purpose. The drone arrived in about a week and in good shape, in spite of being packed only in the factory box. The various videos on YouTube were a big help and in combination with the instruction book I was able to assemble the drone in about one hour. It is very impressive, especially to me, since it's my first drone! The color is quite striking and the fit and finish are very good.About that instruction book, it has all the information but it's not organized very well and the English used is a bit awkward. You have to really study it, and make some notes, if you're new to these procedures. The machine itself worked right off the bat, perfectly, to my amazement. The battery took a while to charge but that is normal, apparently. You start out in low-speed mode and the altitude hold works immediately. My first flights were in very low wind and the drone would hover in one place as if it were parked. I've had it up to about tree-top height and out to maybe 50 yards, and it is very stable. The headless mode has been a help to me, too, though I tend to get confused it the drone goes behind me.I have yet to have a real 'crash' but I have had trouble with the wind, which will start things moving before you know it, and an accidental shift into "Mode 2", high-speed, which caused me to panic and simply shut the thing down, causing it to fall about 15 feet. But this caused no damage at all as it fell into my yard, bouncing off a chain link fence. I've also landed it hard several times, with no effect. The legs are springy and I have the prop guards mounted, so it seems pretty tough. I am still learning, big time. The still photos it takes are about 2 meg (they vary some) jpeg, and are of quite decent quality. The video seems good, too, though I have not explored that very much. I have a nephew with a GoPro and we've flown that a couple of times. It fits right into the camera mount. With the stock camera it's very cool to rotate the X8HG, while it holds its altitude by itself, and just click the camera as it spins on its axis. So, all in all, I'm quite pleased. I think five stars are well earned!
